Bombay Bicycle Club

29th Januray 2024

On 29th January 2024 I had, what I would consider, one of my first major concert shoots.

I emailed the manager of Bombay Bicycle Club and managed to secure a photo pass for their show in Belfast Telegraph.

I arrived just at the end of the opening act, so I waited for 20 - 30 minutes before Bombay Bicycle Club came on stage. I was only able to photograph the first three songs in the photo pit, which is roughly 9 minutes…NOT VERY LONG!

I was in a little bit of a panic running around photographing everything I possibly could.

I noticed the stage colours and set up looked like the music performance of an 80s television chat show, so I leant heavily into that in my edit and when I was photographing. The stage looked so bright and colourful, especially with the big light up “My Big Day”.

I photographed with my 18 - 55mm Fujifilm lens and my 85mm Viltrox for the close ups mainly. I think this gave me a wide variety of angles, but I would be tempted to invest in the Fujifilm 16 - 55mm to get the slightly wider aperture and wider angle. I was also thinking of maybe upgrading to a Sony for the full frame sensor and better low light capabilities, but that’s not really relevant to this gig is it.

Shot with 85mm (equivalent to about 100mm on Fujifilm)

Anyway, I was worried with my pictures until I got home and brought them into Lightroom and had a proper look at them all, then I was very pleased. Sadly none of my photographs were posted by the band yet, but I was pleased nonetheless.

But you just want to see some photos, so here you go!

Captured this one on my way out of the photo pit and it ended up being on of my favourites of the night!

Ran on stage with two confetti canons.

I was not expecting this, so I had to get this shot very quickly, but I think it looks good in the end.

This one is very different.

I tried to draw much more attention to the instrument and created a very moody and high contrast look that I felt needed to be in black and white. It is very different than the rest and what I usually do, but I love it.

Thank you all for reading this far if you have. I will be posting these photos on to my Instagram soon enough I hope. If you don’t already follow me over there go check it out!

I will hopefully be doing many more gigs in 2024, I sense good things.

Anyway, see you all later,

Bye bye

x
